I spent part of the day yesterday at Children’s Harbor creating a fabric collage with some of the girls. Bringing art to these young ladies is such a rewarding experience. When I arrived with all the materials to make the collage, I think they thought I was nuts… Working in a textile medium is not something that most 13-17 year old would have exposure to. Once we started assembling the fabric pieces on the canvas it all came together visually. We choose the subject of the collage to be a ocean wave at sunset. I have a small series of fabric collages “The Wave” that I have sold and or donated to auctions over the years. Each fabric collage is created with upcycled fabric that is hand dyed, cut, designed and sewn on canvas. All the framework is reclaimed wood. Here’s an example of two of my favorites.. When the collage is completed it will be auctioned off at the 4th Annual Harbor Lights Gala that takes place March 26th 6pm at the W Hotel in Ft. Lauerdale.
