What the heck is Squatter, You ask… Well, “@SquatterPopUp” is a curated mobile Art Gallery space. Artists, Craftspeople and Art Installations as solo or a group will exhibit their artwork using a mobile platform. Squatter started as an idea for a pop-up art exhibit in my hometown of Hollywood Florida… Hoping to take advantage of some of our downtown empty or derelict buildings, my idea was to create curated art exhibits to activate spaces and bring them to life in hopes of people seeing the potential of these spaces. Unable to convince realtors/property owners to take a chance on a win win collaboration, the universe presented me with an opportunity and I jumped on it… Squatter is a 1973 Shasta Compact Trailer, and she’s got plenty of baggage…. My cousin (@brentlystead fb @readfeasttravel insta) tagged me in a post that her friend Sally Ann Handmade Fashion was selling her vintage camper. I contacted Sally and the rest is history… It’s kinda fate… Sally creates amazing Artisan handbags, accessories and limited edition, small run collections from upcycled materials. Click on the link above to see and shop her creations. I hope someday soon we can meet up, She is in the process of becoming a gypsy… taking her show on the road, traveling the great USA to sew her heart out….
I have been feverishly working on Squatter, stripping paint, patching holes, my Uncle Tom and Cousin David spruced up a couple of things with the under carriage and added a couple extra goodies… next up, I will be buffing out the aluminum siding, adding some stripes and replacing the door as well as a new awning… This past weekend at Miami Flea was my soft opening, I was extremely happy with the response and kick off of “Squatter”. Many people approached me about being featured as a guest artist or included in future group exhibits. Stay tuned… more info and a calendar of where I will be squatting is coming soon. Be sure to follow me @squatterPopUp You never know where I will be Squatting next.
